Homestead Apothecary – The Bent Barbell Ranch Tinted Lip Balm

In history apothecaries were an essential part of everyday life. I like to think of myself thrown into the Middle Ages, creating remedies and such for everyday skin care, aches and pains, etc.

I’ve been studying herbal remedies for a couple years, growing what I can, and outsourcing others to create my own skincare with natural products and am excited to share our Tinted Lip Balm.

I started to get frustrated a few years back when even though I tried to purchase the most natural form of makeup, soap, detergent, lip balm, etc I was finding the organic, all natural labels are often a farce unless you are purchasing from a smaller business.

I started by making little oil salves here and there from our garden of herbs, and flowers. Then it became soap, and lip balm, and it’s just sort of flowed from there.

I recently sold out of our newest tinted lip balm, and I can proudly say it’s all natural. I spent a long time creating infused oils, researching different companies and their morals before purchasing their products I can’t grow here on my homestead.

It took some different experiments with the kids, my husband, and some testers who so kindly became my test subjects.

Striving to create a lip balm that leaves your lips feeling moisturized, with natural UV protection, tinted with only natural ingredients that leaves your lips feeling coated, not greasy or flakey I’ve found a lip balm and I can proudly wear and proudly sell to others.

I think often we cut corners because it’s easier, one example being some of the natural minerals I originally set out to color my lip balms with. I was really horrified to find that they are not always sustainably sourced, and have their arms entangled with child labor. So that was an initial hurdle I needed to get past in order to tint my lip balms without sacrificing my moral compass.

A company with your moral compass is out there, it’s just not always easiest or the cheapest option. But isn’t that why our products here in America are unhealthy? Over consumption which results in cheaper products to meet the demand.

Even though I spend most my days doing some sort of farm chores, I find I feel much better overall if I get it together. My makeup routine is minimal, but I love some tinted lips as I’m sweet talking the farm animals. You feel better when you put an effort into yourself, for me tinted lip balm is a fav. It used to be lipstick, no matter how muddy or dirty my task was outside I had to have my lips on, but once I found out what was in my favorite lip products I had to ditch them.

Today, I’m happy to share our first 5 varieties of lip balm from our home apothecary to yours. What started as a little ranch in nowhere Nevada selling my soaps and lip balms, has resulted in a multi state endeavor. Thanks be to God.

I hope that people aren’t just purchasing my products, but really beginning to examine what they have on their shelves and be encouraged that they can create their own healthy products free of hidden pollutants.

I choose to leave my lip balms unscented for the most part, unless their is a benefit for skin health.

First up, is our unscented lip balm, perfect for soothing chapped lips in all the seasons. The tallow helps the lip balm to adhere to your lips without leaving them greasy or flakey. This is a perfect lip balm for men, leaving no shine this is my husbands favorite chapstick. Which says a lot. I’ve bought a lot of organic chapsticks from the store with many complaints from him.

Next is Sun Kissed, naturally dyed with rose clay, soothes the lips with calendula oil grown on our farm. This was my daughter’s creation of a color, and a favorite of mine. The shea butter combined with the tallow leaves you with a sturdier bar of lip balm making this perfect for my daughter. She tends to be hard on everything!

A favorite of mine is the Desert Rose tinted lip balm. Minimal tint, your lips will remain looking fresh for hours, the Vitamin D is a perfect addition to creating an all around lip loving lip balm.

The Ruby Queen, tinted lip balm is a unique one among the five different lip balms, this one is naturally dyed with beet powder. I assure you there is no smell of beets, and it’s minimal tint adds life to your lips without looking like your wearing much.

I was looking for a medium tint, not quite a nude color, but not quite a heavy tint either. Which resulted in Primrose. Made with rose clay and rhassoul clay known to improve skin elasticity. Sal butter used as a natural UV protection, as well as vitamin D which is crucial for skin health.

Lastly, Joy, named after my newest goat! Weird is what my 9 year old told me, but her coat is a brown, red and that’s exactly the color of this tinted lip balm is. Although it looks dark in the container, it leaves a nice glossy, warm tint on your lips. Smooth, and long lasting!

Top lip has the tinted lip balm, bottom doesn’t. Perfect for my low maintenance beauty routine. I hate taking selfies so I opted for as non-weird of a lip photo as possible, but I wanted to show you how natural looking even the darkest tint is.

All the creations sold from our ranch are diligently researched, tested, and created with our own two hands.

Next week I’ll be hosting a lip balm making class for those looking to increase their home apothecary! I’m excited to share what I can and hope others go out and begin to do the same.

I hope more women started to embrace their natural beauty, ditch the fillers and Botox, and see how much better they feel using natural products.

I have found the more I’ve eliminated from my beauty routine the toxic hidden chemicals in everything, the better I’ve felt overall. Less migraines, anxiety mostly. Once you switch to more natural ingredients the less you will be willing to compromise on what you put on your skin.

Hope you have a beautiful Thanksgiving Day tomorrow, I’m off to finish baking our desserts!
