Tattler Lid Review – Reuseable Jar Lids

I’ll be honest I had to clear the dust off my Tattler Lids for this seasons canning sessions. I purchased them a year ago, tried them once and wasn’t impressed. They didn’t seal, and call me crazy but the popping sound a traditional lid gives is so pleasing to the ear. It’s like your canning efforts are applauded by those silver lids.

I ordered mine from both Amazon and Lehmans.

This canning season has been so wild for us. Never have I canned so much, I found that I was tired of purchasing new jar lids each season, so dusted off the Tattler Lids and found myself loving them.

The only CON I’d like to inform you of is the lack therof of the applaud of your freshly canned jars. There isn’t a popping sound that comes with these reuseable lids.

There was a bit of a learning curve initially hence the reason mine sat and collected dust for quite some time before I buckled down and really gave them a shot. And I’m glad I did!

Although more costly upfront, this is a necessary arsenal for your canning efforts I assure you. I do a lot of canning, and to purchase new metal lids every year can get expensive, and I’d have to stockpile a lot of metal lids each year.

I’ve found that I’ve fallen in love with tattler reusable canning jar lids, and would recommend them to any home canner.

There is a trick though that I’ve found essential in ensuring your jars seal properly. When tightening the band, be sure to turn it backwards about a quarter of an inch, allowing any air to escape makes for a perfectly sealed canning jar.

Since I discovered this little tip, the tattler lids have become my go to.

After the water bath, I leave the jars to sit for a few hours before loosening them about a half turn and this has resulted in perfectly sealed jars that last a long time in my pantry.

An easy way to cut your costs ultimately each canning season i’d recommend any home canner purchase tattler reusable jar lids for their canning efforts.

Allow yourself a little grace, because it is a learning process from the simple metal canning lids that most use.

After they’ve sat and cooled I remove the metal bands, and do the lift test. Lifting by the lids to ensure that they are sealed. If any don’t seal I place them in the freezer, but my success rate has been higher with my newfound quarter turn trick.

I also store them in my pantry without the metal bands that way if anything goes wrong with the seal it’s easy to spot and remove.

I definitely would recommend those who are looking to increase their self-sufficiency to invest in these. A bit of a hefty upfront price it is worth it, I assure you!

Have you used reusable tattler lids before?

Happy Canning!
