A room without books is like a body without a soul. – Cicero
My bookshelf is overflowing with books, I think at any given point in time I have a book enroute from Amazon. One of my favorite places to be is in a used bookstore.
I love to read, and have since I was a little girl. My mother instilled her love of reading in me and my siblings from the youngest of ages, at any moment you can find multiple books in my reading nook. I can’t just read one book at a time, I usually am completely enthralled in multiple books at once. My kids are the same, cultivating a love of reading from a young age is one of the greatest gifts.
Heading to the library was a portal to another world, the sweet, musty smell of books cherished by many readers. I have read a few books on my Kindle, but I love the feeling of the weight of a new book in my hands, the scratching sound of pages turning, the earmarks showing another page read, simply the smell of a book.
When I’m not tending to our homestead, any free moment I have is spent face in a book, curled up on my couch with a cozy cat, completely absorbed in my latest book.
This past year I made it a point to read as many books as possible. I am not particular to the genre of books, I love to get lost in any and most stories, fiction and non fiction. Transported to a different time, a different life, I am a dreamer lost in the latest book I’m reading.
I’m always looking for something new to read, not necessarily newly written, but something I haven’t divulged in before.
This year I blew through a lot of different books with all different story lines. Some new authors to me, and some not so new.
So let’s look at some of the books I completed this past year. I hope you will be encouraged to head to the library or to Amazon to grab one of these reads from my list of books I’ve insatiably consumed.
This list of books kept me constantly turning pages. Some of these books are controversial, lovely, Biblical, offensive, devastating, thrillers, and some time travel.
This list is composed of books from a variety of genres, but all of them left me pondering them long after I finished.
I’m always scouring for new books to read, I hope you find something in this list of books to read this year entertaining, if not thought provoking. Not all are new, some are old, but the great things about books; they don’t expire, you can pick up a book from any moment in time and be transported to a different time and place.

I realize this list actually includes 6 additional books since they are part of a series, but I figured you can’t just stop at one so I’d group them together!
I contemplated writing a description for each of these books, but I think it would have taken you days to read through my lengthy reviews. Not only that but I think that’s where the fun is in finding something new to read, grabbing a book and allowing the author to transport you somewhere else. Each book listed above regardless of the emotion it brought forth was a page turner nonetheless which I applaud each of the unique authors for their ability to captivate the reader.
Sometimes when a book isn’t something we normally read we find our imaginations stretched and possibly a new love of a genre! It’s like a treasure hunt to find that book that keeps you captivated, cast under a spell by the magic of the author. Sometimes it’s an offensive topic retold through a different lens that makes you curious. Either way the hunt for a thought provoking book is always part of the expansion of our minds.
If a book isn’t evoking some sort of emotional reaction I wonder is it really a good read after all?
Please share in the comments a favorite book you’ve read recently!
Happy Reading!
Danielle
