“The heavens are telling of the glory of God;
And their expanse is declaring the work of His hands.” Psalm 19:1
I think oftentimes we are so consumed in our day to day that it’s rare we settle in and look around and reflect on the beauty surrounding us. A walk around my homestead always brings me a soul refresh, and a soul refresh is what so many of us are in need of. Beauty surrounds us in some of the simplest forms, we just have to remove the lens and enjoy it.
Come along with me and take a walk, and feel the beauty and tranquility on my homestead on this frigid winter’s day.
Here in Nevada, we get snow, but nothing over 6″ and it usually melts within a day or two.
However, we’ve been hit with a very unusual storm for us here, blanketing the ground with over 2 feet in less than 24 hours. Knocking out power for a few days. It’s funny how the loss of such a normal luxury, power, brings solitude and a renewal of the soul if you let it.
Having grown up in a snowy terrain, I’m no stranger to feet and feet of snow, but I am a stranger to homesteading in this much snow.
Although a bit more work, and a little more challenging than homesteading in better weather. I’ve found that there is a beauty to homesteading in the snow. The freshness of newly fallen snow is enough to revive even the tiredest of souls.
There is nothing like the sweet embrace of a cozy fire when the outside temps hover below 15 degrees.
The simplicity of time spent crocheting a new project.
The tranquility in untouched snow.
The sound of silence blanketing the neighborhood.
The added cardio in carrying bucket after bucket of warm water out to thaw the animals waters.
Dolly frolicking waist deep in the snow.
The zoomies Greta makes as she tunnels through the snow.
The reminder of the power of God, and the beauty in His creation.
The sounds of my children giggling as they wrestle in the snow.
Even the wet footprints blanketing my kitchen floor are a reminder of the fleeting moments of children playing in the snow. What a gift it is to be a mother.
What a beautiful way to start off 2023, surrounded by snow and natures silence. Animals tucked into their hay bedding. Children wrestling in the snow. A warm retreat after a days work on the homestead.
I could have written about the beauty found here, but sometimes words are not able to convey the beauty that surrounds us.
May you reflect on your blessings each day of 2023, remember that all storms pass no matter the ferocity, and enjoy the creation our Creator so thoughtfully bestowed upon us.
Happy Winter!
Danielle
